IT Infrastructure Engineer/Architect

Job Description:

The Infrastructure Engineer/Architect is responsible for the providing technical and enterprise lifecycle support for the project. This is the lead position on a fast-moving project that requires a large infrastructure to support achievements of its goals. The Architect's primary role is to ensure that the project is progressing successfully through its lifecycle stages and is successful in achieving its deployment and milestone exit objectives.  The Architect is responsible for supporting the business case as well as operations and maintenance and other downstream activities. The Architect is also expected to be an engaged member of the project team providing advice and guidance and helps manage issues and risks.


  • Provide technical support and supervision of operations and maintenance for a technical infrastructure that includes VMware, RHEL, RH Clustering (Resilient Storage), JBoss, Oracle, Apache and CA suite of security products (SiteMinder, IdentityMinder, Advanced Authentication and Directory)
  • Evaluate software components to determine how they meet business and technical requirements
  • Work with relevant government stakeholders and business process owners to complete the Project Life Cycle documentation required for Milestone progress assessment and exit reviews
  • Translate the agencies operational policies and procedures to a patching and maintenance/upgrade strategies
  • Support issue resolution and triage calls for test and production environments
  • Support release deployment, patching and other technical upgrades
  • Conduct document reviews, update technical documents as needed and provide drawings and Architecture artifacts in Visio
  • Take ownership for the project’s server lists and track changes across multiple environments
  • Support for the security accreditation process including but not limited to SA&A, FISMA certification and security risk assessments
  • Support security validation scans, penetration testing and other security vulnerability assessments
  • Understand the needs and requirements of the operational partners and translate to support needed to operate at a world-class level of support. Make recommendations for improvement in this area

  • Responsible for and contributing to the Enterprise Lifecycle documentation including but not limited to Business System Architecture Definition, System Audit Plan, System Design Specifications, Computer Operators Handbook System Deployment Plans, Project Transition Plans and System Interface definitions
  • Responsible for identifying risks and issues related to the assigned responsibilities. Develop risk mitigation approaches working with government stakeholders, business process owners and project team members. Escalate issues/risks to program management as appropriate
  • Provide support to the project manager in the area of enterprise management, enterprise lifecycle and related project milestone reviews
  • Assist the project manager to keep the project on track and provide advice and guidance to improve project execution
  • Prepare presentations; reports and other artifacts to help communicate the project’s concept, definition and status to diverse set of stakeholders
  • Act as a mentor for the junior members of the project team
  • Execute any other project related duties that may be assigned by the project manager from time to time


  • At-least 10+ years of experience supporting a complex and large IT Infrastructure project
  • At-least 3 years of experience working for Federal Government agencies
  • Ability to understand Information Technology infrastructure, solution integration and in-depth knowledge of technical topics is of paramount importance
  • Hands on experience with supporting Multi-Tenant Applications in distributed Data Centers
  • Hands on experience with Software Development methodologies like Agile, Extreme Programming and multiple languages and operating systems
  • Hands on experience working with Enterprise Operations and developing processes to streamline delivery
  • Hands on experience with VMWARE ESX, RHEL OS, RH Clustering (Resilient Storage), Oracle DBMS, JBOSS
  • Hands on experience with vulnerability scanning tools: Policy Checker, Tripwire, Guardium, Rational App Scan
  • Hands on experience with enterprise life cycle documentation (Please submit writing non-confidential writing samples with significant contribution by the applicant)
  • Proven experience of delivering results working with cross functional teams or large matrix organizations
  • Knowledge of NIST, FICAM , NSTIC and other government guidelines

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment


  • Undergraduate in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Masters degree in technical discipline preferred
  • Infrastructure or other related certifications desired

Work Status:

  • Active MBI from IRS or Department of Treasury is highly desired
